Back to School Night Presentation
It is time to update your Family File for the 2023-24 school year.
- You can access and complete your Family File through HCPSS Connect. Family File can only be accessed through the account of a parent/guardian. This information must be completed every year to ensure HCPSS has the most current information for each child. Resources on how to use Family File may be found online, including instructions on how to reset passwords. If you need additional assistance, please complete this Connect Help Form.
- HCPSS participates in the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs which provide families with significant benefits to help save money. Qualification is based on family size and income, and enrollment is confidential. All children in households receiving benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) can get free meals regardless of income, and students from households that meet federal income guidelines are eligible to receive free or reduced-price meals. FARMS eligibility provides discounts for summer school, SAT, recreation programs, Maryland Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and internet programs as well as other dicounts.
School Supplies for Students
- High school teachers will inform students of any needed supplies at the start of the school year in their syllabus. The number of supplies requested will be reduced to keep costs down for families and reflect those most essential for virtual learning. It may be necessary to replenish supplies during the school year as needed. Please note, we will not be supplying agenda books for students this year. We encourage you to purchase a planner/calendar for your student to help them keep track of assignments.
- The graphing calculator is an important technology tool used in Howard County mathematics courses beginning with Algebra 1 and extending through the end of the course sequence. Although digital graphing tools are available online and will be used at various times in middle and high school math courses, students are best served by having a personal graphing calculator such as the TI-84 Plus CE (rechargeable) graphing calculator. Students who go on to take mathematics courses in college will likely be able to use the same calculator for college coursework. Note that students are permitted to use a graphing calculator on the SAT, ACT and Advanced Placement mathematics exams. Arrangements can also be made to borrow a graphing calculator from school through your child’s mathematics teacher.
