Damn Yankees!

Mon, 07/22/2019 - 2:19pm

Auditions will be held on Thursday August 22 from 6:00 to 8:00 and on Monday August 26 from 4:30 to 6:30 PM in the choir room. If possible we would like for you to be at both auditions.  Show dates are November 8-16, 2019.  If you are in band camp, contact Mr. Fisher (jfisher@hcpss.org) and our new theatre teacher, Ms. Carlsen, (kcarlsen@hcpss.org) and we will work out a time for you to audition.

For your audition, please prepare a song to sing which is under 60 seconds. I will have a piano player for you at the auditions—simply bring your sheet music (unless your song selection is from the show—we have the score for that).  If you want to sing to a karaoke orchestration on a CD---PLEASE HAVE THE CD CUED UP AND READY TO GO SO THERE ARE NO TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES.    We are reserving Tuesday Aug 27 in the evening for callbacks.  Please pass this information along to your friends.

This popular musical has been a fan and actor favorite over the years. The show centers around Joe Boyd, an avid Washington Senators baseball fan.  Year after year the Senators finish in last place with the Yankees winning the pennant.  The Devil (Mr. Applegate) appears and Joe makes a deal with  him and sells his soul to become the young, athletic Joe Hardy who goes to play for the Senators and becomes the star the Senators need.  Applegate calls on his assistant, Lola, to seduce the young Joe to try to keep Joe’s mind off of his wife whom he misses terribly.  Damn Yankees won the Tony Award in 1955 and ran for over 1000 performances.   There was a 1994 revival starring Victor Garber and Bebe Neuwirth and it is this cast recording that we will be using for the show.  Although the movie is dated and a little slow, the stage version is lively, fast-paced and fun!

The show calls for a large cast of males and females and is such a great and fun show. The show has many parts as well as many chorus numbers.  There are also some roles that are non-singing.

Please fill out the accompanying audition sheet and have it ready to turn in at the audition.  Please make sure you check your personal and family calendar and indicate dates that you are unable to be at rehearsals.  We hope you encourage a friend to try out as well.  Please let others know about this exciting opportunity!! Thank you.  Ms. Carlsen, Mr. Hettenbach and Mr. Sankey are excited to see you on Aug 22 .

If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Carlsen (kcarlsen@hcpss.org).
