March 9, 2020

  • Just a reminder - for seniors, if you have purchased your 2020 senior yearbook, you still have the opportunity to purchase your freshman 2017 yearbook at a reduced price of $25.00, cash or check.  Bring your receipt of the 2020 yearbook to Ms. Fischetti between now and this Friday, March 13.
    • If you haven't ordered your senior yearbook, you can still get a reduced 2017 book at a cost of $35.00, between now and Friday, March 13.
  • Anyone interested in being a girls lacrosse manager?  We need help with the stat book and videotaping games.  Go see Ms. Brookhart in room 145 today if interested.
  • Attention German club!  We will be meeting tomorrow, Tuesday, March 10, in the foods room, 104, after school to make yummy Spatzle!  Hope to see you there!
  • The after school bus is back this week, Tuesday and Thursday!

  • REMINDER - As part of Mindful March, tomorrow, Friday, March 6 is the National Day of Unplugging.  At Mt. Hebron this is Pay Day:  Put Away Your Device.  The receive your free Viking cell phone pocket, sign up today, Thursday, March 5, to pledge to challenge yourselves to break away from technology and social media for one day, or even part of the day.
    • CAN YOU DO IT?  CHALLENGE YOURSELVES!!!!!
  • Here is another volunteer opportunity -  The Gary J. Arthur Community Center in Glenwood is hosting two (2) events that require volunteer support.  Volunteers are needed for the Spring Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 4, and the Hero Hustle on Saturday, April 25.  If you are interested in volunteering for either of these events, please see Ms. Flynn in Student Services.

March 3, 2020

  • There are two (2) volunteer opportunities available at Glenwood Middle School for a March Madness fundraiser for Grassroots on Friday, March 20, from 3 pm - midnight.  They are specifically looking for students with experience playing basketball who will volunteer to be referees and scorekeepers.  Other volunteer opportunities are also available.  Please see Ms. Flynn in Student Services for more information.
  • This is a reminder that neither STUDENT SERVICES or the CAFETERIA will be available during Viking Time Wednesdays this month due to our Mindful March activities.
  • Seniors, have you purchased your 2020 yearbook?  Do you regret NOT buying your 2017 freshman yearbook?  Now is your time to own both! 
    • If you have not purchased your 2020 yearbook, you can purchase a 2017 yearbook for $35.00 from now through Friday, March 13.
    • If you purchased your 2020 yearbook, you can purchase a 2017 yearbook for $25.00 between now and Friday, March 13.

  • Varsity tennis tryouts begin today, Monday, March 3. 
    • Boys will practice from 2:30 - 3:30 pm
    • Girls will practice from 3:30 - 4:30 pm
  • Attn.:  AP students!  You may not add or cancel any AP exams after Friday, March 13.  If you wish to register for an exam or cancel an exam, you must see Dr. Kiehl in room 109 before March 13.

  • Students if you have an elevator key signed out to you, and are finished using it, PLEASE return it as soon as possible to the health room.  You will avoid a debt slip by doing so.
  • Attn.:  Students trying out for outdoor track, TODAY, Thursday, Feb. 27, is the LAST day to sign the roster in room 104.  Try outs will be held on Saturday morning, Feb. 29, at 8 am.
  • The class of 2023 will selling single doughnuts for $1.00 after school tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 28, in the front lobby!  If you missed your opportunity to buy a box or two earlier this week, you DO-NUT wanna glaze at this sweet opportunity.
  • Reminder - No after school bus next week, Tuesday, March 3, nor Thursday, March 5.  After school bus will resume Tuesday, March 10.

  • There will be NO Amnesty International Meeting today, Tuesday, Feb. 25.
  • For anyone interested in playing JV or Varsity Girls Softball there will be a MANDATORY softball meeting in the hitting center this Wednesday, Feb. 26 during Viking Time at 9 am.  Please plan on attending.
    • This is for JV and/or Varsity Softball for new or returning  players.
    • The hitting center is in the back hallway across from the weight room and the health classroom.
  • Attn.:  Math Team members, our next qualifier will be this Wednesday, Feb. 26, right after school.  Come by to take the qualifier for our meet next week at Marriott's Ridge.  See you tomorrow afternoon.
  • Baseball tryouts will start this Saturday, Feb. 29.  JV players will be trying out from 8 - 10 am.  Varsity players will be trying out from 10  - 12 pm.  Make sure you have all of your forms turned in online in order to participate.
  • Varsity tennis practice will begin Monday, March 2, at 2:30 pm.

  • Attn.:  all students trying out for spring sports, come to the parent meeting tonight in the auditorium at 6 pm.  And, if your parents are having difficulty uploading documents to the parent portal, they can come to the media center between 3 - 6 pm for help. 
    • If you tried out for a fall and winter sport, you only need to complete the parent permission for to participate and upload an updated BGE form.
    • Please check in with all coaches before tryouts to receive the guidelines for making the teams.
  • Looking to earn service hours?  Interest in helping others?  Students interested in being Peer Partners for the Allied Softball Team should see Mrs. Ewart in room 140 during Viking time this Wednesday, February 26.
  • During the month of March, Student Services will be having Mindful Wednesdays during Viking Time.  Students can sign up to do mindful walking, mindful eating, mindful play-doh, or many more options.  In doing this, we will be promoting and bringing awareness to the importance of mental health and well-being.  You will have the opportunity to participate in a different Mindfulness Activity every week, but must sign up through the google doc.  You can select the activities that you are most interested in or sign up with the counselor or teacher you are most comfortable with.  You may participate in as many or as few days as you'd like, but you will only do one activity for each Viking Time (four total).  Please let your counselor know if you have any questions or need help signing up!
  • A reminder that Swim Club is meeting this Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 2:20 in Portable 1.  Please try to attend.
  • Attention teachers and students -  support the Class of 2023 by ordering Kristy Kreme donuts for $10 per dozen.  Teachers, order forms are in department offices and the workroom.  Students, see Ms. Brookhart or Mr. Aubin to place your order. DO NUT miss out on this opportunity.

  • All sophomores that are planning to try out for baseball, should please stop by Coach Wilson's office in room 149 sometime today, Friday, for a quick meeting.
  • Swim club will meet next Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 2:20 in Portable 1.  Please try to attend.
  • Attention students trying out for outdoor track, please stop in room 104 to sign the try out roster before next Wednesday, Feb. 26.  Paperwork needs to be uploaded into the parent portal by Saturday, Feb. 29.

  • The 2021 Class Board is selling pizza and t-shirts in the front lobby after school today.  Come out and support our class.  This will offset the cost of prom!  Pizza is selling for $2.00 a slice, t-shirts are $12.00 each.  Stop by on your way out the door.

  • Art Club and Art NHS club meetings are cancelled for today.
  • There will be a tennis meeting tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 7 at 2:15 in the cafeteria for anyone who wishes to tryout for tennis this spring.
  • There will be a baseball meeting next Friday, Feb. 14 at 2:30 in the cafeteria for anyone who wishes to tryout for baseball this spring.
  • Valentine's day is coming up and what better way to show your appreciation for a loved one or a friend by buying them a Candygram!  Key Club will be selling them today and next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at lunches.
    • Cupcakes $2, Lollipops $1, and Chocolate Roses $2.  80% of the proceeds go to Eliminate Project for UNICEF, which will help eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus worldwide.  It will also pave the way for the delivery of other lifesaving services, such as clean water, nutrition and other vaccines for mothers and babies. 
    • Only 4 days to purchase, don't forget.

  • There is a BSU meeting this Thursday, January 30, after school in the cafeteria.  We will be discussing plans for Black History Month and decorating doors.  Join us if you need service hours.
  • Indoor Track/Field athletes, if you are NOT competing at regionals and states, turn in your uniforms ASAP.  Failure to do so will result in an obligation of $145.00.
  • Students who enrolled in Independent Research or Intern/Mentor are reminded they must submit an application to Dr. Kiehl, by Friday, January 31.  Applications for both courses can be found in the media center or online at mthebrongt.com.
  • Sophomores, are you looking to build your confidence, leadership and problem-solving skills?  Do you want to make a difference?  Then consider joining Leadership U. Class of 2020!  This is an amazing opportunity to participate in this four (4) month program to work with a team to put together a community service project.  Come to learn more and speak to some of our graduates tomorrow, Wednesday, January 29, during Viking Time in the auditorium, or during one of our interest meetings in the local libraries.

  • FBLA members completing a performance event at regionals are reminded that regionals is this Saturday, January 18, at the ARL from 8 am to 3 pm.  You will only need to show up for your event time slot and then you may leave.  The schedule will be sent out and will also be posted to CANVAS.  If you signed up and paid for an event, the expectation from FBLA is that you will be present and will compete!  Please contact Mr. Gorleski with any questions you may have.  Good luck and see you there!
  • Act out!  Take theatre!  If you are looking for an active class where you can express yourself and play different characters - then Theatre is the class for you.  If you have theatrical experience, you can audition into our upper level courses - Musical Theatre Ensemble or Theatre Company.  See Ms. Carlsen in room 136 if you have any questions or visit www.MtHebronTheatre.org.
  • AP students, you have until Friday, March 13, to add or cancel AP exams.  After that date, there will be NO exams that can be cancelled or ordered and there are NO refunds.

January 13, 2020

  • MISA testing is resuming today at 10:45.  Students are to eat 1st lunch and then report to testing.  All student who did NOT complete MISA testing due to snow days should check the list outside the front office and report to testing as assigned.
  • Theatre - If you are interested in doing lighting, sound, being backstage, or more, come to the tech meeting on January 15 after school  to help with Beauty and the Beast!  Also, feel free to contact Ms. Carlsen , in room 136, if you have any questions.

  • The Math NHS is meeting today after school in the auditorium.
  • There is a BSU meeting today after school in the cafeteria.  We will be discussing plans for Black History Month and other discussion topics.  Snacks will be provided.
  • Seniors who had Life Touch appointments for portraits cancelled on Tuesday afternoon, there is a new day.  It will now be Thursday, January 30.  You will receive a new appointment card in the mail.
    • The deadline for senior portraits to be submitted is Friday, January 31.  No portraits will be accepted after this date.  If you used Lifetouch to take your portrait it will be submitted automatically.  If you are submitted your portrait from an outside photographer, please email it to yearbook.mounthebron@gmail.com.  DO NOT EMAIL TO LAUREN FISCHETTI, THE YEARBOOK TEACHER.
    • The deadline for casual portraits is Friday, Feb. 14.

  • Attention indoor trach and field athletes, team pictures will be Thursday, January 23 at 12:00 in the main gym.
  • Student volunteers are needed for the Electives Fair on Monday, January 13.  We are looking for students who would like to help set up and clean up, as well as for the fair itself on Monday evening.  If you are able to help, please see Ms. Flynn in Student services.  This is a great opportunity to earn Service Learning Hours.
  • Not sure which classes to take next year?  Come out to the 3rd Annual Electives Fair Monday night, Jan. 13 from 6:30 - 8 pm in the cafeteria and gym.  You will have an opportunity to see the many electives we offer here at Mt. Hebron.  There will be a performance by our dance, guitar and theatre students.  Don't miss this great event!

  • The Greg's Driving School class that starts today, Monday, Jan. 6, will be meeting in room 143, beginning at 2:45.
  • The 6th annual MKL Jr. Day of Service will be held Monday, January 20, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm at Glen Mar Church, 4701 New Cut Rd., Ellicott City, MD  21043.  A wide range of family-friendly short-term service activities will be provided for ages 5 - 105.  The Day of Service offers families and friends the opportunity to serve together and make a positive difference in our communities.  Free childcare for ages up to 4 years old will be offered from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.  The event is free and open to the public.  Student Service hours forms are available.  For further information, see Ms. Flynn in Student Services.

  • All 11th grade students will take the MISA science test next week.  This is a graduation requirement so be sure to show up on time for testing.  Students should see their Science teacher for testing locations.  A poster with student testing locations is also in the hallway on the 2nd floor near the beverage machine.

  • There will be a short meeting for all girls interested in playing softball in the spring.  The meeting is today, Thursday, Dec. 19 at 2:15 in room 147.  We will be discussing several items concerning the upcoming season such as winter workouts and tryouts.  It should not take more than 15 minutes.  Also, spread the word to individuals that have expressed an interest in playing softball this year.

  • The Music Tri-M will have its first meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, Dec. 11 at 2:15 in room 131, Mr. Rettenmeyer's room.
  • On Thursday, Dec. 12, Mt. Hebron will be hosting a parent night for our Hispanic parents and students in grades 11 and 12 with a presenter from the Ambiciones Program at Howard Community College.  Parents and students are invited to learn about the supportive community designed to meet the unique needs of Hispanic/Latino students at HCC.  The presentation will be in Spanish.  Any questions please see Ms. Flynn in Student Services.

  • 10th Graders - The last shadow days of the year are being held for the Career Academies.  If you would to attend to see what the Career Academies are all about, pick up a permission slip from your school counselor.  All permission slips are due by Friday, Dec. 13.  See your school counselor for more information - don't miss out on this great opportunity!

  • Viking Service Club is at it again!  Please come out and support the Viking Service Club on Monday, Dec. 16 directly after school in the cafeteria.  The club will be making BLANKETS and HOLIDAY CARDS.  We are requesting donations of fleece material to be provided to Student Services by Friday, Dec. 13.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact Ms. Dolan in Student Services.
  • Would you like to be part of our School Flag Detail?  Students interested in learning how to properly fold both the American and Maryland State flag as well as being part of our team who raises them up the flagpole and takes them down each day, should stop by the front office and give them your name.

  • The National English Honor Society is now accepting applications for new members.  Eligible students need to be in either 11th or 12th grade.  If you have a passion for English and love literature, please check out the Honor Societies button on the Student Canvas Page.  All procedures and forms are available for download there.  Applications are due to Mrs. Shannon Davis in room 234 by the end of school on Monday, December 16.

  • FBLA members testing for regionals are reminded to sign up for a test date this week!  The sign up list links were sent out last week, and can be found on the FBLA drive.  Spots are filling up, so please sign up ASAP.  Students testing as a team must all sign up and be present on the same testing date!

  • Make sure you don't miss the Model UN meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, after school in room 119!  We are going to go over the results of the Centennial conference as well as discuss upcoming conferences throughout the year.  The meeting will last about 30 minutes.  Make sure you don't miss it!
  • Tickets are on sale now through Friday, during all lunch shifts, for our fall musical, "Damn Yankee".  Shows are Thursday, Friday and Saturday, at 7 pm.  Tickets are $12.00.
  • Students volumteers are needed for the 5th annual free community Thanksgiving day dinner.  All that is requred of volunteers is a donation of a food dish or dessert.  Service learning hours will be given.  Please see Ms. Flynn for more information.

  • The Muslin Students Association is having a Meet and Greet for the start of the 2019 school year, today after school in room 149.  Come meet your club sponsor and maybe some new people.  Snacks provided!
  • Have you memorized an impressive number of digits of pi?  Do you enjoy solving challenging math questions?  Are you interested in competing against Mt. Hebron and Howard County students in a relaxed and fun environment?  If so, come out for the 1st Math Team meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, September 11 in room 203 right after school. Everyone is welcome - see you there!
  • Do you like to compete and show off what you know?  Do you like trivia and Jeopardy?  Come find out about the It's Academic club.  Our 1st meeting is this Thursday, September 12 after school in room 101.  All are welcome.
  • The 1st meeting of Future Business Leaders of America is this Thursday, September 12, in room 003.  Come out and help our chapter hold onto its 1st place in the state this coming year!  There are over 70 event that you can compete and distinguish yourself in.  They span all categories from computer programming, to public speaking, to graphic design and everyting in between!  We hope to see you Thursday.

  • The Class Board of 2020 invites all seniors to the  Senior Crab Feast on Wednesday, September 18 from 530 - 9 pm.  Tickets are now $25.00 and can be purchased online.  The last day to purchase tickets is Friday, September 13.
  • Individuals interested in the Health and Wellness Fitness Club, see Coach Carter in room 104 for more details.
  • All girls interested in playing basketball this winter, there is a brief interest meeting tomorrow, Friday, September 6 right after school in the main gym.  If you are unable to make it, please talk to Coach Ahearn to receive the needed information!  We hope to see you there!
  • There will be Badminton interest club meeting, after school in room 156, this Monday, September 9 from 215 - 230 pm.
  • The Allied Soccer team begins practicing this Monday, Sept. 9  There will be a brief meeting for players and peer partners today, Thursday, in room 140 immediately after school.  Students interested in playing or assisting as a peer are welcome to stop by.  Those who can't make it or have problems can see Ms. Cassetta in room 212.

  • There will be a Badminton interest meeting next Monday, Sept. 9, after school in room 156 from 2:15 - 2:30.
  • Yearbooks - 
    • 2019 yearbooks will be available for pick up in room 232 Wednesday, Sept. 4 and Thursday, Sept. 5 until 3:30 pm, and on Friday, Sept. 6 until 3:00 pm.  Any books not picked up will be distributed as soon as possible during 4-A and 6th periods.  Please email Lauren Fischetti with any questions at lauren_fischetti@hcpss.org.
