The Maryland Seal of Biliteracy acknowledges high school seniors who have attained high levels of proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in one or more languages in addition to English. Graduates who earn this prestigious honor are required to pass the English PARCC exam and score at least intermediate high proficiency on a county-approved language exam (typically an Advanced Placement Exam). Students receiving this award will receive the Seal of Biliteracy on their high school transcript. Candidates who must wait for their test scores over the summer will still be recognized at school and will be able to obtain a new transcript by bringing their AP score report to the registrar's office.
Eligible students will receive information and applications from their school's point of contact in order to explain the process and to apply for the award. For more information, please view the Seal of Biliteracy section of the MSDE website.
