January 29, 2018

  • There will be a brief 9th grade board meeting today after school in room 114.
  • Applications for Independent Research and Intern/Mentor are due to Dr. Kiehl in room 109 by the end of the day Wednesday, January 31.  Applications can be found at under Program Documents.
  • This is the last week to submit designs for the After-Prom Logo Design contest.  Submissions are due by midnight this Friday, Feb. 2.  Fliers with contest details are available on the PTSA website, in the front office, or on the posters in the main hallway.  The winning designer will receive 2 free tickets to After-Prom and a $20.00 gift card to Qdoba.  Will your design be the winner?  Hurry and submit your ideas now!
  • An important reminder - all indoor track athletes not going to county, regionals, or states, need to turn in their $145.00 uniform or they will receive a debt slip.

January 25, 2018

  • Dance Placement Auditions are this Monday, January 29 at 2:15 in the dance studio.  Students interested in attending auditions should see Ms. Reyes for an audition packet.

January 22, 2018

  • The next Oyster Gardening will be this Saturday, January 27.  Meet at the high school at 12:45, leave at 1:00 pm.  Please bring boots and gloves.
  • Jrs. and Seniors - an admissions representative from Howard Community College will be here on Tuesday, Feb. 6 at 12:25 pm.  Please sign up through your Naviance account if you would like to meet with HCC.  See your counselor for more information.

January 19, 2018

  • All indoor track athletes NOT competing at County, Regionals, and States need to return their uniform to Coach Carter by Jan. 24th.
  • Students in need of service learning hours:
    • Howard County Excecutive Allan H. Kittleman is currently seeking a student applicant who is interested in serving on the Recreation and Parks Advisory Board.
    • Comprised of eight members, including one student, the Board provides recommendations relating to plans, policies and programs for public recreation, and reviews plans for and holds hearings on the acquisition and development of land for public recreation and open space.  The student board member will serve a one year term from July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019.  
    • To be eligible  for consideration, candidates must be a Howard County resident, enrolled in high school for the 2018-2019 academic year, have an interest in public recreation and be able to attend the Board's meetings which are held the third Wednesday of each month from 7:00 - 9:00 pm in conference room #1 at the department of Recreation and Parks headquarters, 7120 Oakland Mills Rd. in Columbia.  Please see Ms. Flynn in the student services if you are interested.
    • The deadline to apply is Friday, Feb. 16.
  • After school bus WILL NOT run on Thursday, Jan. 25 due to early dismissal mid terms.

January 16, 2018

  • Congratulations to the members of the It's Academic Club who placed 3rd in Saturday's regional tournament, competing against 37 other teams.  There will be a general meeting of the club after school today in room 101.  All are welcome.
  • The 9th grade board will be meeting on Thursday, January 18 in room 114 immediately after school.  All are welcome.
  • The Millionaire's club will be hosting a Smith Business School luncheon this Thursday, January 18, after school in room 145.  Students from the Smith Business School at the University of Maryland, College Park, will be providing insight on their studies, internships and various college experiences.  Lunch will be provided.  Please RSVP with Mrs. Bechta in room 145.

January 11, 2018

  • IMPORTANT:  Help sessions are being held during ALL lunch shifts in room 101, today, through Friday, January 19, if you have any questions on how to access Synergy for your online course selections for next year.
  • There is a Viking Service Club/Vikings Helping Vikings today in Student Services at 2:15 to help with the stressball project.  Any questions, please see Mrs. Marton.
  • Do you know the secret to getting a 5 on your AP exams?  We do!  Come to AP Social Studies tutoring in room 103 after school today, and next Thursday, January 18 to get help studying for your mid-terms.  See your AP Social Studies teacher for more information.
  • Students - do you still need Service Learning Hours?  If so, please consider volunteering for Teen Court.  To be eligible, you must be in grades 9 - 12 and under 18 hears of age.  Applications are due by January 17.  Please see Ms. Flynn in Student Services if you are interested.
  • All girls interested in playing JV or Varsity softball for Hebron this Spring.  There will be a mandatory organizational meeting next Thursday, January 18 at 2:15 in the cafeteria.  If you intent to try out for softball on March 1, please do not miss this very important meeting.

January 9, 2018

  • Stay for the basketball doubleheader today vs. Long Reach.  Varsity is at 3:30, JV to follow at 5:00.
  • The Red Cross club will be having a bake sale on Thursday, Jan. 11 right after school in the front lobby.
  • Students interested in signing up for dance or attending dance placement auditions are invited to attend a Dance registration and audition session Wednesday, January 10 during Viking time, after meeting with your 2nd period teacher.  We will answer any questions you have about dance classes for next year and review the audition process.  We hope to see you there!
  • Want to see your original artwork on 500 t-shirts?  The PTSA is holding a contest to design a logo for After Prom.  Students may enter as many designs as they want in a jpg or png format.  The winner will receive 2 free tickets to After Prom and a $20 Qdoba gift card.  Contest deadline is February 2.  Find full  contest details on fliers posted in the main hallway or in the front office, or visit the PTSA website.

  • The robotics club Build Season begins this weekend.  Kickoff is in the tech ed room from 9:30 - 5 pm tomorrow, Saturday, January 6.

January 2, 2018

  • Shakespeare Troupe will have rehearsal today from 3:00 - 5:00 pm.  Study hall will begin at 2:15 pm.
  • Lancers will have practice today at 3:00 pm.  Study hall will begin at 2:15 pm.
  • Joseph Cast - No rehearsal today, but rehearsal the rest of the week.  Check the google calendar for specifics.
  • Tech Crew will not meet until next Wednesday, January 10.  See you then.
  • There will be a Freshman Board meeting on Wednesday, January 3 during Viking time in room 114.  All freshmen are welcome.
