HEBRON HAPPENINGS:

  • Mt. Hebron Celebrates Black History Month!
    • Read By: Student Malik Islam
    • In the early 1900’s, Carter G. Woodson, an African-American historian, was frustrated – he did not feel that the history and accomplishments of black people were being taught or celebrated in the United States.  While working to address this problem, Woodson set the foundation for what would become today’s National Black History Month.  Woodson chose February for this observance because the birthdays of abolitionist Frederick Douglas and President Abraham Lincoln fall in this month.  During the early 1970’s, the name of the celebration was changed to Black History Week.  It was expanded to Black History Month in 1976.
  • This week students who use the Media Center After-School will be asked to sign in on the computers at the Media Center Front Desk.  See Dr. Neugebauer with any questions
  • This week at Mt. Hebron, we are kicking off our CHANGE MATTERS Campaign!  All money raised will be donated to GRASSROOTS, Howard County’s only homeless shelter.  Change collections are being held during ALL Lunch Shifts.
    • Your change will be used to improve the lives of homeless children and families that stay at Grassroots.
    • We are competing against Centennial to see who can earn the most money to support the homeless. We will conclude our fundraiser at the Home Boys’ Basketball game vs. Centennial on Tuesday February 7th.  Selling Pluck their Feather T-shirts for $10 during ALL Lunch Shifts.  Thank you for your help supporting the homeless.  Your CHANGE MATTERS!
